American Granola bars

Nibble on……guilt-free!!

Skip store-bought snacks and whip up this super nutritious and delicious homemade recipe for granola bars. These American-in-origin healthy treats are great for lunchboxes, breakfast on the run or just as a snack. These glorious bars are a treat for kids too!

These crunchy and chewy no-fuss energy bars are a healthy way to give the body the nutrition it needs. The almonds in the recipe below can be substituted by other seeds or nuts of your choice like pumpkin seeds and flaxseeds or hazelnuts and walnuts.

What will I need?

1 cup seedless dates

1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup almonds, coarsely chopped
1 1/2 cups rolled oats

How is it done?

Process the dates in a food processor until they form a dough. Lightly toast the oats till they are golden brown, in a non-stick skillet over low heat. Set aside the oats, almonds and dates in a bowl. Warm the honey and peanut butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir and pour over the mixture in the bowl and mix it thoroughly. Transfer it to a small lined baking tray and press the mixture down firmly into a thin even layer. Cover it with a plastic wrap. Place the tray in the refrigerator to let the bars set. After about 30 minutes, remove and chop into 10 even bars and wrap them up in foil. Store in an airtight container for up to a few days.

Makes 10 bars.
